The Story of Barrio Boyzz

Barrio Boyzz were a pioneering Latin R&B and pop group formed in New York City in 1991. Brought together by SBK Records, the group—originally consisting of Angel Ramirez, David Davilla, Hans Giraldo, Louie Marrero, Robert Vargas, and Fredy Correa—was designed to bridge the gap between the urban R&B sounds of New York and the burgeoning Latin pop market. They were one of the first groups to successfully record in both English and Spanish, appealing to a diverse "crossover" audience.

The group’s historical peak arrived in 1994 when they collaborated with the "Queen of Tejano," Selena Quintanilla, on the smash hit "Dondequiera que estés." The song reached Number 1 on the Billboard Hot Latin Tracks and introduced the group to millions of fans worldwide. Their soulful harmonies and synchronized choreography made them a unique fixture in the boyband landscape, blending the "street" sensibility of NYC with classic romantic ballads.

Throughout the mid-to-late 90s, Barrio Boyzz released several successful albums, including Donde Quiera Que Estés and Una Vez Más, earning multiple Billboard Latin Music Award nominations. Though Fredy Correa left the group early on to pursue other ventures, the quintet continued to tour extensively across Mexico and Latin America before officially disbanding in 2001.

As of 2026, Barrio Boyzz are remembered as icons of the 90s Latin music explosion. Their collaboration with Selena remains a permanent fixture on Latin radio and streaming platforms, frequently cited as one of the greatest duets in the genre's history. While the members have moved into production, solo music, and other industries, the "Boyzz" legacy as trailblazers for the modern urban-Latin sound remains undisputed.

Barrio Boyzz released several albums under SBK Records including their crossover hits.
