The Story of soulDecision

soulDecision (originally known as Indecision) was a breath of fresh air in the late 90s pop scene. Formed in Vancouver, Canada, the trio consisted of Trevor Guthrie, Ken Lewko, and David Bowman. Unlike many boybands of the era, they were a self-contained musical unit: they wrote their own songs, played their own instruments, and possessed a sound that leaned heavily into R&B, funk, and blue-eyed soul.

Their massive breakthrough came in 2000 with the release of the infectious single "Faded." Featuring a guest rap by Thrust, the song became a global phenomenon, reaching #1 in Canada and hitting #22 on the US Billboard Hot 100. Their debut album, No One Does It Better, was a masterclass in turn-of-the-millennium pop, recorded in Sydney, Australia, and eventually selling over a million copies worldwide.

They followed "Faded" with the equally catchy "Ooh It's Kinda Crazy," which also secured a #1 spot on the Canadian charts and became a staple on MTV's Total Request Live. The group spent the peak of their career touring with icons like Christina Aguilera, NSYNC, and Destiny's Child.

In 2004, seeking more artistic freedom and moving away from their major label, they released their second and final studio album, Shady Satin Drug. Released through Trevor's own label, Sextant Records, the album showcased a more organic, funk-rock sound. Despite the quality of tracks like "Cadillac Dress," the bankruptcy of their label and lack of industry support led to the group's disbandment in 2005.
