The Story of Ultra
Ultra were a British pop boyband formed in the late 1990s, emerging during the final wave of the UK’s boyband boom. The group consisted of James Hearn, Nick Keynes, Jon O’Mahony and Nick Hallam, and they quickly gained attention for their polished pop sound and strong vocal harmonies.
They debuted in 1998 with their self-titled album Ultra, blending classic 90s pop production with emotional ballads and radio-friendly hooks. The band’s breakout single “Say You Do” became a major hit, reaching #11 on the UK Singles Chart and establishing them as one of the most promising new British pop acts of the time.
The album also produced other singles such as “Say It Once” and “The Right Time”, helping the group build a strong fanbase across the UK and parts of Europe and Asia. Their debut album reached the UK Top 40, marking a solid commercial entry into the competitive late-90s pop scene.
Despite critical praise and strong early momentum, Ultra disbanded in the early 2000s after their record label restructuring and the shifting pop landscape. Their legacy remains tied to the golden era of British boybands that defined late-90s pop culture.
