The Story of CD9
CD9 is a Mexican pop boyband formed in 2013 in Mexico City. The group originally consisted of Jos Canela, Alonso Villalpando, Alan Navarro, Bryan Mouque, and Freddy Leyva. They quickly became one of the most important Latin boybands of the 2010s, building a massive fanbase known as “Coders”.
Their rise began through social media and live showcases, gaining attention for their polished choreography, youthful image, and catchy Latin pop sound. Early singles such as “Ángel Cruel” and “Me Equivoqué” turned them into a teen phenomenon across Mexico and Latin America.
Their debut album CD9 (2014) was a major success, followed by Revolution (2015) and Evolution (2016), solidifying their status as one of the most successful Latin pop acts of their generation. They also toured extensively across Latin America and Spain, becoming a leading name in the regional pop wave.
In 2019, the group announced an indefinite hiatus, leaving fans uncertain about their future. During this break, members pursued solo projects in music, acting, and media.
In 2024, CD9 returned in a new 3-piece formation, marking a new era for the group. This comeback focused on a more mature sound and nostalgic connection with longtime fans, while reintroducing the band to a new generation of listeners.
Today, CD9 continues to evolve as a smaller lineup, balancing nostalgia with reinvention and maintaining their place as one of the most influential Latin boybands of the modern era.
