The Story of HomeTown

HomeTown was an Irish boyband formed in 2014 by the legendary music manager Louis Walsh. After the global success of Westlife and Boyzone, Walsh set out to find the next big vocal powerhouse in Ireland. Following a grueling audition process involving over 1,000 hopefuls, he hand-picked Brendan Murray, Cian Morrin, Dayl Cronin, Dean Gibbons, Josh Gray, and Ryan McLoughlin to form the sextet.

The group made an immediate impact on the music industry. Their debut single, "Where I Belong," was written by the Irish band Kodaline and showcased the group's incredible vocal harmonies. The track rocketed to #1 on the Irish Singles Chart, becoming the fastest-selling debut single by an Irish artist in 2014. They repeated this success with their second single, "Cry for Help," which also topped the charts in their home country.

In 2015, they released their self-titled debut album, HomeTown, which debuted at #4 on the Irish Albums Chart. Their music was a blend of modern pop and folk-influenced ballads, a sound that resonated with audiences across the UK and Ireland. Throughout their career, they shared the stage with major acts like The Vamps and McBusted, proving they could hold their own in massive arenas.

Despite their rapid rise, the group announced a hiatus in December 2016 to pursue individual paths. Brendan Murray famously went on to represent Ireland in the Eurovision Song Contest 2017 and later impressed Simon Cowell as a finalist on The X Factor UK in 2018. Although their time together was relatively short, HomeTown remains a beloved chapter in the long history of Irish boyband excellence.
