The Story of V
V was a British five-piece boyband formed in 2003 through a series of auditions held by Prestige Management. The group consisted of Antony Brant, Aaron Smyth, Mark Harle, Kevin McDaid, and Leon Pisani. They arrived at a time when the British pop scene was transitioning, but they quickly managed to capture the hearts of teen audiences across the UK.
The group's name, "V", was chosen because it represents the Roman numeral for five, signifying the five members. They gained significant momentum by opening for Busted and McFly on their arena tours, which gave them massive exposure. Their debut single, "Blood, Sweat and Tears," was released in May 2004 and debuted at #6 on the UK Singles Chart, proving they were a force to be reckoned with.
Their second single was a double A-side featuring a fresh pop version of The Jacksons' "You Stood Up" and their original track "Hip To Hip." This release also reached the UK Top 10, peaking at #9. Their debut album, also titled You Stood Up, showcased a mix of upbeat pop-rock and soulful ballads, featuring contributions from songwriters who had worked with the biggest names in the industry.
Despite their initial success and a loyal fanbase, the group announced their split in February 2005. Following the breakup, the members took different paths. Kevin McDaid became a professional photographer and was well-known for his long-term relationship with Westlife's Mark Feehily. Mark Harle briefly joined the band Little Comets as a drummer. While their career was brief, V remains a quintessential example of the mid-2000s UK pop sound.
